Admissions

Admission must be granted before a student is allowed to register for courses.

1.  M.A. Degree Program
     M.A. Candidate must submit the following items before being considered for admission:

1. A completed application form.
2. Transcripts showing that the applicant has received a bachelor's degree from
a regionally or nationally accredited or state approved college or university.
Applicants who received degrees from non-accredited institutions or who are applying
without an undergraduate degree will be considered on an individual basis.
3. Three letters of reference. References from family members will not be considered as
objective references.
4. A tape demonstrating the ability to interpret from English into Korean and from Korean to English.
5. Two pictures
6. Application fee: $60 for International students and $35 for domestic students

2. Ability to Benefit

Normally, students are eligible to apply for admission to graduate study after
they have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Occasionally, applicants without an undergraduate degree, but who indicate
the ability to perform graduate studies, may be admitted to the graduate program
as special students. Candidates for this program must be actively engaged in translation
and interpretation, must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies,
and must have at least five years of translation and interpretation experience.
They must demonstrate the ability to benefit from the masters program by letters
of reference and/or standardized testing. The number of such students accepted is
strictly limited.


3. International Admissions

Students who do not reside in the USA and who wish to attend LAITI must follow
the regular admissions guidelines for the respective program to which
they seek admission. In addition,international students must satisfy
the requirements of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service
by becoming eligible to study in the USA through the obtainment of an F-1 visa.
In order to apply for an F-1 visa, a student must obtain an I-20 form from LAITI
or another approved institution. Candidates must submit the following items
in order to obtain an I-20 from LAITI: Certificate of Bank Deposit Affidavit of Support
and its related documents I-20 processing fee: $100 (if transferring within the U.S.
the fee is $50) Approval for the I-20 is granted after a student has met all the
necessary financial and academic requirements and has provided proof of return
following graduation. Students desiring the I-20 should contact LAITI and request
a special I-20 admissions packet.
